First released in Japan in 2007, Crisis: Core Final Fantasy 7 tells the story and adventures of Zack Fair in SOLDIER. To those unfamiliar with the main plot of FF7, Zack plays an integral role in Final Fantasy 7 protagonist Cloud Strife’s journey as a Shinra soldier. Despite Zack’s minimal presence in the original PlayStation RPG, the community seems to have developed a soft spot for the character. This is likely why Square Enix developed and produced Crisis Core 15 years ago.

Though the official Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion release date has yet to be revealed, news has already popped up online that indicates the action RPG has received its ESRB rating. The remaster has been given the “T” rating as well as tags for blood and violence. Compared to the original PlayStation Portable title, the rating remains the same but will be missing tags like mild language and mild suggestive themes. This may mean that Square Enix is taking a more censored approach to the remaster, given how graphic and violent the original could be in terms of gameplay and story scenes.
Given that more than a decade has passed since the release of the original Crisis Core game, fans are likely just happy that the action RPG is getting a remaster this year for modern gaming platforms. The game’s community has a lot to look forward to, especially since Square Enix has been teasing new Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion elements and gameplay features to fit well with the current gaming generation’s taste. What’s more, Square Enix has confirmed that the game will now be fully voice acted, allowing for more immersive storytelling.
With the last quarter of 2022 just a month away, it is likely that Square Enix will be revealing more details about Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion soon. Hopefully this includes the game’s official release date and more information about the changes the development team will be making in the action RPG.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion will release this Winter for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
