For those unfamiliar with the term, this is a process called deepfaking, where a person’s face is put in place of someone else’s using some pretty high-end technology. Though it is often used for harmless and silly things such as this, it has a negative side too.

While there is probably little risk in trying something like this out, users should still be wary, as deepfaking can be used in very negative ways — some people have had their faces deepfaked onto adult film stars, for example. A brief look at the terms of service makes the app seem harmless, though, as it claims that facial feature data is only stored for a maximum of 30 days after you last use the app and that it won’t use your facial scans for face recognition.

Still, seeing one’s own face in place of iconic video game characters can be pretty funny, and in some cases is even pretty impressive. The free version of the app requires users to watch ads pretty frequently and limits certain functions, however.

Doublicat is free on the app store.
