When responding to a fan question on Twitter, Crackdown 3’s Creative Director Joseph Staten confirmed the much talked about multiplayer mode, called Wrecking Zone, will not support party play with friends on launch day. Without going into any details, Staten reassured the ability to link up with friends will be coming in the future, as part of the game’s post-launch plans.
The lacking of an important feature of multiplayer, while not the worst thing that could happen, still adds to the struggles both the current and former developers of Crackdown 3 have endured. Thankfully, players will still be able to access Wrecking Zone when the game launches, though the inconvenience of having to pair up with random players isn’t a fitting scenario long-time fans are looking for.
While there have been obvious struggles, Sumo Digital has been transparent about many aspects of the marketing and development process. Following the admittance of revealing the game too early back in 2014, Crackdown 3 has suffered multiple delays into 2017, 2018, and beyond. Late last year, Microsoft assured there would be no further delays for Crackdown 3 after being pushed back once again to February 2019.
Taking the issues pertaining to Wrecking Zone out of the picture, Crackdown 3 certainly offers a dose of healthy ambition as the third game in the series nears release. For starters, the total world map size is significantly bigger than the original game, showing a drive to push the boundaries of what the Crackdown series is known for. While the game doesn’t any true commitments to DLC yet, knowing it will be offered day one as part of Xbox Game Pass is a consumer-friendly way to get subscribers playing Crackdown 3 more frequently.
Crackdown 3 launches on February 15th for PC and Xbox One.
