The Sky Blues, who have been involved in a rent dispute with their stadium owners for over a year now, and were even threatened by the current owners – Sisu, to look for a new base in the city, were made an offer by the Arena Coventry Limited to play “free of any rental fee”.

Coventry City Football Club Ltd has garnered interest from not one but six potential buyers.

The club is due to come out of administration after the final deadline on Thursday. The offer might only stand till one of the bids is accepted by Paul Appleton, the club administrator.

The City, after selling the ground at Highfield Road- their home for 106 years, moved to Ricoh Arena in 2005 and played eight seasons there.

In spite of a threat to be cast out of the stadium towards the end of 2012, City completed their season and both the parties came to an agreement by March, this year.,

In a statement, ACL said: “We have today notified the Football League of a proposed solution for the coming season to enable the football club to fulfil its commitments under Football League regulations, and to provide stability whilst Coventry City Football Club Limited, which owns the League Share, remains in administration.”

“All charges incurred on matchday as a consequence of staging a match will be passed through at cost.”

“Given ACL wishes to ensure it provides the best playing surface possible, it will now take direct responsibility for future management and maintenance of the pitch.”
